Recital 66!
Along with the fun and memories, our annual recital requires a lot of planning and attention to detail! Over the years, we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help you easily find the information you need. If you have any questions, we’re always here to help!
Is recital participation mandatory? No, but we strongly encourage it for a student’s growth in training, and confidence!
What if my dance cannot participate? An opt-out form must be competed by Saturday, November 8th in person ! After this date, costume and participation fees are set up for auto pay in each account.
Can my child still attend class if they don’t do the recital?
Yes! Non-participating students stay in class and learn the routine. They may be moved to the side or back for stage formations and will be offered a make-up class for dress rehearsal week.
Can my child begin classes and be eligible to perform mid-season? Yes! Please note our dance curriculum is progressive throughout the season. Elements and combinations taught during the fall season are then incorporated into the routines taught throughout the spring. We recommend students begin attending dance classes as early as possible within the annual season (September-May). Our classes utilize teaching assistants to help all students.
When and where is dress rehearsal? Our 2026 Recital will be held at the McAllister Auditorium at SAC. Dress rehearsals are May 16-21 in the studio. A detailed schedule is available in around late April.
Is dress rehearsal mandatory? Yes. It is mandatory to give all dancers the opportunity to rehearse with their entire class prior to show day.
Are classes held during dress rehearsal week? No. Our last week of classes is the week of May 9-15. Dress rehearsals are May 16-21 in place of classes. Our studio staff will be working to prepare props, signage, and all the supplies necessary for performance day May 22-29.
How long does the show last? We typically will have two shows that are approximately two to three hours in length with no intermission. With live shows routines are not set to perform at certain times. As a dance community we ask the audience to stay for the entirety of the show as all our dancers showcase their hard work and progress from the season!
Will my child leave after their routine? Dancers are required to stay for the duration of the show, with the exception of our Mommy & Me, and Just Me dancers. Our finale showcases each student with bows, confetti and dancing to celebrate! Parents may pick up their dancers after finale.
How many tickets does each family get? General admission tickets are FREE! Invite as many family and friends as you’d like. Seating is not assigned, we recommend arriving early to get your seats. VIP seating is available.
What is VIP Seating? Our VIP seating are the best seats in the house! There are two tiers of seating ranging from $15-$20 per ticket. Vip tickets guarantee reserved seats in prime locations, provide priority seating to help you beat the crowd, and come with a complimentary SWAG BAG full of gifts, incentives and offers.
If my child is in both shows, are we required to stay in between? No. Dancers are dismissed to their guardian after each recital. Dancers must be picked up as they will have no supervision after dismissal. You are welcome to remain in the dressing rooms or you may leave and return if time permits.
Are photos and videos allowed? No. A professional video download and photography is included in your recital participation fee. Individual studio portraits are available May 15th & 16th. For more information click the “Studio Portraits” tab of this page.
What is included in my costume fee? The cost includes the costume, accessories, and steaming if needed. Dancers/Parents are responsible for proper shoes, tights, hair, and makeup.
Are costumes refundable? Unfortunately, we are unable to refund any costume fees. If a dancers chooses not to continue Dorothy Keck Dancers reserves the right to purchase the costume back for another dancer to use.
How do you know what size costume my dancer will need? We measure each dancer in the fall and account for growth in the process. We then use students’ measurements with the size chart from the costume companies to determine an appropriate size. Once costumes arrive students will try them on in class, and parents will be invited in to see how they fit. Remember, on Show Day we’re looking for well fitted costumes!
When are costumes given to students to take home? Recital costumes go home in classes before dress rehearsal. Your account must have a zero balance before your child’s costume goes home.
If my child is in more than one routine, who will help them change? Each year we ask for Stage Mom volunteers to chaperone classes backstage. We ask parents of students, rather than strangers, to help dancers feel comfortable and to have chaperones who are familiar with the classes age group. Stage moms help with the necessary backstage changes, supervision of students, and walking students to.from stage. Studio staff will help with “quick changes” in a separate area.
Can my child take snacks and drinks to keep backstage? No. The theater does not allow food or drinks backstage, aside from water. Dancers should never eat or drink with their costumes on.
